Cocoa touch tablet coming soon
Jul 17th
You may have heard – maybe not – but people who are familiar with the Apple Parts supply lines say that Apple has ordered completely new parts for what is considered to become the Apple Tablet. Rumors say that it will feature a 9 and some odd inch display and touch interface. We’re quite familiar with the Snow Leopard Beta and every update has new features that would tie-in perfectly with a tablet like device. For example, it’s becoming easier and easier to do things with gestures instead of changing settings or using your mouse in complicated manners.
The rumors have been spinning for a couple years, even before we started this blog a year ago… but it appears that there are some solid leads running around at the moment – solid enough for analysts to declare that we’ll see this device before the Christmas shopping season hits.
Between my iPhone 3GS 32GB and my MacBook Pro (the real one – not the crappy rebranded MacBooks that apple just released) I don’t see a need for a tablet device. However, I didn’t see a need for an iPhone at first – look at me now, I write for a blog that’s devoted specifically to them. Funny how it all turns out.
Anyways, if these rumors do turn out to be true, we’ll get our hands on one and continue in the Cocoa Touch coverage. After all, CTA isn’t just iPhones… it’s everything that has to do with Cocoa Touch.
By the way, CTA turns 1 year old on Sunday. Anyone have ideas for a celebration? Going along with the fun news, I was recently hired by TUAW as one of their newest bloggers. We’re still working out the contract, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to keep writing here and at my new post without any conflicts of interest. You’ll still get my twitter updates at least!
Cocoa Touch Apps on Twitter
Jul 3rd
We don’t always have time to write out a full-fledged CTA review, but we still want to keep our readers in the loop with all things Cocoa Touch…
In an effort to still squeeze a little blogging into our already jam-packed lives, we’ll be doing updates via twitter. We’ve been on twitter for over a month now, but haven’t actually set it up to push live updates to the site until now.
iPhone OS 3.0 appears to be working out pretty well – news did come out today about a vulnerability in the SMS program that allows a hacker to enable such things as GPS location, the microphone and other creepy stuff… It appears as though Apple already has a fix in the works… will probably roll out that as well as some hot new features in 3.1
So far you can expect new voice control compatibility with bluetooth connections… finally voice-dailing for people who have expensive cars. (Not me) If you edit a video you took with your 3GS – it won’t kill whatever you cut… it offers to create a new version…
Other things of note in 3.1 – the phone vibrates when moving icons… ummm, I’m actually not excited about that. I think it’s just a waste of my battery. I already see the icons dance, why vibrate my phone? Boot times are quicker – which means that Apple has actually taken some time to optimize the OS a bit… kind of like Snow Leopard – due out this September.
Lastly, this one is cool… Apple has actually opened up the video APIs so that a developer could write an app that will give you more editing abilities than just trimming in Apple’s editor. Practical, no – but if someone writes the software, I could create a whole movie with my iPhone.
For our unlock followers – as always stay away from everything new until you’ve checked with our friends on the Dev Team.
