CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★★★☆

We reviewed Palringo a couple of weeks ago and weren’t able to give it the review we wanted to give.  We were very impressed by the newest update of the application, so we thought we should post the update in a completely separate post.  Read on for our main reasons to make this your default Instant Message client for your mobile device…

It actually works now.  In our initial review, we criticized the application for not keeping us online.  We would be active for about 5 minutes before we were booted and no longer able to sign in.  We’re happy to report that we’ve been signed in all evening and haven’t been kicked off once.

Everything is sooo much easier now than it was in the initial release.  You don’t have to spend 15 minutes trying to figure out how to add a service… it’s right there in front of you when you open the application.  Without going into tremendous detail, there are three pages: accounts, contacts and groups.  Each page has an edit and add button at the top to easily manage all of your information.

The service still requires you to create a Palringo account when you install the application. Before you get your panties up in wad, we realized why this was important today: it saves all of your information.  We deleted this app a couple of weeks ago, and when we wanted to reinstall it, all of our information came right back.  Super handy.  Yes, you have to create yet another account… but you also won’t have to setup all of your IMs next time your iPhone crashes.

There’s a toggle button!  This makes it really easier to switch back and forth between conversations and whatever else you have going on.  Awesome.

Lastly, voice messaging.  It was listed in the initial released but was quickly pulled after it came out.  It’s there, finally.  This is absolutely sweet.  It’s any easy way to send a personalized message to any of your IM friends without much if any trouble.  Your friend must be able to receive voice messages… but even if they can’t, it’ll send them a link so they can listen to it outside of their Instant Message Client.

That’s a huge list, and we’d really like to thank the developer for listening to their users’ suggestions.  It’s definitely going to be an app that I’ll use every day.  If only Apple would put out the Push Notification service sooner!

We know this may not be fair as it’s not Palringo’s fault, but we gave it a 9 because it sucks to be logged out any time you’re not in the app itself.  As soon as push notification goes live… we’ll give it a 10.
