Myst Coming to the iPhone & iPod Touch!

A recent forum post in the mystonline forums points to a possible port of everyone’s favorite classic point and click RPG, Myst, to the iPhone and iPod Touch.  This came as a real “duh” moment to us because it would literally be the best selling game in the store and be very easy — in our minds — to port over.  Hit the read link for more info…
Chogon from Cyan Worlds recently put up a post updating myst fans everywhere about their current projects and progress. Â It was very small in relation to the rest of the update, but it’s there:Â
This is a small project that probably a very few of you know about. We are porting Myst to the iPhone. Ok, before some of you start groaning, this is an outside funded project that is keeping a few developers employed… but it is really more than that. It is an interesting and fun project. This is also a very small team with three of us (which includes Derek, Rand (not Randy) and myself).Â
With that said, we could see a few issues with the port of Myst to iPhone: game size, graphics, saving.  Starting with game size, the first release of Myst only required 30 MB of disk space… or so our research tells us — we don’t have a running copy any more (we’re bummed).  That size itself doesn’t appear to be too much of a problem, but we’re hoping for a little bit of a graphics bump as well.  Believe it or not, the graphics from the original Myst are much, much less than what the iPhone and iPod Touch are capable of rendering.  We’d love to see the developers do a little bit of an up-scaling with this port (this could effect the overall size of the game).  Of course, we wouldn’t be terribly disappointed if the graphics were the same — it may be more nostalgic.  Lastly, we haven’t played Myst in a very long time but will definitely be begging for a save anytime, anywhere scheme because I’d have a hard time making it through a whole puzzle during my 15 minute break.  We could be wrong. We seem to remember saves being few and far between, but prove us wrong in the comments.
Anything we missed? Â What do you think would be crucial for this port? Â Let us know in the comments…

I think, that this, is a terrific idea. I was just thinking the other day on how cool it would be to play Myst on my iPhone. It would be perfect! As if, the iPhone was made for this style of gaming (if at all gaming). All you do in the game is click, so it would be a lot better to see them tweak with the interactivity a little bit, but not enough to change the gameplay. It would be great for long drives, sitting around at the house. Practically anything. I can not wait, to have this on my iPhone.
