Billy Frontier — Old School Shooter, New Feel

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★★☆☆

Billy Frontier is the newest release from Pangea Software that is a port of their very popular shooter from the Mac OS.  It reminds me a lot of the old arcade style shooters where you shot the enemies on the screen with your pistol or shotgun.  Very cool, very fun… but we’re still looking for improvements.  Read more after the break.

Happy Update Day? — Dev Team Has Newer Stuff (Updated)

The Dev Team blog writes that it’s Happy Update Day.  We suppose that our happiness depends on what type of update it is.  We’d really love to see another iPhone update that would improve the overall stability, but we’ll take what they offer: Pwnage Tool 2.0.3 which supports 2.0.2 firmware and QuickPwn ‘150′ beta that not only includes 2.0.2 support but also baseband unlock for first gen iPhones and YouTube fixes.  You may remember that we predicted QuickPwn would jailbreak but not unlock iPhones… yeah, we were wrong…

Expando — Addicting Game for All (Developer Update)

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

We were one of the lucky 10,000 to get Expando for free but we would definitely say that this game is worth the 2 bucks that the developer has since begun to charge.  Don’t get your panties in a bunch.  They announced that it would be free to the first 10,000 and then charge after that.  They’re not part of the dingy group of developers that put their stuff out for free before charging once it gets popular.  Read about the gameplay and the app in general after the break…

Simplify Media — Stream Songs to Your Mobile Device

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★★★☆

Are you one of the Early Adopters who bought an iPhone on June 29th, 2007?  Did you get a 4GB iPhone?  Are you regretting that decision now?  Even if you just purchased a 16GB iPhone, most users always want more space for music, videos, podcasts and whatever else you can imagine.  Simplify Media has revolutionized the way I use my iPhone through streaming media… and yes, it works (read: very well).

The Tetris Company Forcing Tris from the App Store!

We heard some disheartening news this morning: The Tetris Company is forcing beloved developer Noah Witherspoon to remove everyone’s favorite free game, Tris.  If history were to truly play out again, TTC wouldn’t really have a case against Noah, but he — we can’t blame him — doesn’t have the time or resources to fight big bad game companies.  Read more about this crushing story after the break…

No. 2 — A Sophisticated Sketching App

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

No. 2 is a sketching app available from a well-known mobile device developer, Lint Labs (aka miniMusic).  It is most definitely a sophisticated and powerful application that will allow you to create some very appealing works of art right on your iPhone or iPod Touch… However, the learning curve that comes with the application will make you wonder if it’s worth it.

Myst Coming to the iPhone & iPod Touch!

A recent forum post in the mystonline forums points to a possible port of everyone’s favorite classic point and click RPG, Myst, to the iPhone and iPod Touch.  This came as a real “duh” moment to us because it would literally be the best selling game in the store and be very easy — in our minds — to port over.  Hit the read link for more info…

Apple Tells AT&T Customers to Update: Does Nothing

This afternoon at 12:05 PM Mountain Time, we received a text message from AT&T on behalf on Apple.  Read for yourselves, it says that there has been an update available from Apple for your iPhone 3G since Monday.  Great.  So what?  This update was obviously intended to improve the 3G connectivity that AT&T and pretty much every other carrier has struggled with.  The sad and pathetic part of it:  Apple and AT&T think it’s crucial enough to send a text message to every iPhone 3G owner.  In reality, most of our readers are telling us that the update either didn’t improve anything or made it worse.  We’ll stick with our previous verdict: don’t update unless absolutely necessary.  It won’t help much.

QuickPwn: Dev-Team Provides Easier Pwnage (Updated Again)

Just hours before Apple released the latest version of mobile device firmware, The iPhone Dev-Team released a completely new application called QuickPwn.  Earlier today, they developed a very basic and rough, though functional, version of the software available — believe it or not — only for Windows as of now (There is a basic GUI version available now). Their intention was to improve the feelings in the Jailbreak Community so that not every release is Mac-only right away.  Read more about the app itself after the break…
