A Personal Assistant – Pageonce

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

A Personal Assistant by Pageonce Inc. is a pretty impressive account manager for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Take a look at the picture above; it’s free.  We were surprised to see such a well supported and jack-of-all-trades application like this available for free, and we are definitely impressed by its capabilities.  With that said, we’ll walk you through a full run-down of the app following the break.

New iPod Touch on its Way

Word on the street is that we can expect to see a new set of iPod Touches available within the next month or so.  Our guess is that we’ll see these the same time that we see the mystery product that Apple’s Peter Oppenheimer announced during the quarter three earnings call.  Take this with a grain of salt, but it looks like iPhoneAtlas has found some new product information in the beta release of Apple Mobile Device software 2.1.  It looks like there’s a new reference number for the iPod Touch.  We noticed that, back when iPhone 3G was still a rumor, a new reference number typically meant a model.  We’ll wait and see but it may be worth holding off until September to get that top-of-the-line 32 GB model as some better could come around between now and then.  Check out the link to iPhone Atlas if you want to read the full article.

An Open Letter to the Morons of Defective by Design

CTA RATING: ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

It came to our attention yesterday that a certain group of people decided to waste every Apple customer’s time by creating a “world-wide” protest called “Apple Challenge.”  In this challenge, they are urging people to waste Genius Bar appointments so that they can argue with Apple’s Geniuses.  What a great idea… um… no.  First off, why should I as an Apple customer have to put up with your ridiculous accusations when I’m just trying to get my computer running?  Secondly, every single one of their questions can be easily answered with two minutes of work.  Great research guys.  So we, as former Geniuses, wrote an open letter to this idiotic group of people and have encouraged them to come refute it here.  The full letter after the break…  Please take the time to Digg this article so the Genius Bar isn’t full of morons this weekend!

Quake4iPhone

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

What better way to start our Jailbroken app reviews than with Quake4iPhone?  It’s not only one the most memorable first-person shooter of all time, it’s playable on your iPhone or iPod Touch.  We’ll tell you right now, this app is still in the development stages, but we couldn’t resist writing an initial review.  It is fantastic, but you can read about that after the break.

Palringo — A New Instant Messenger

CTA RATING: ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆

Palringo is a new Instant Messenger client that came out on Saturday this past weekend.  We spotted it and decided to give it a shot over AIM.  Palringo claims it does everything that AIM doesn’t, like photo messaging and even voice messaging.  We think that it could be decent competition for AOL’s AIM client for iPhone but aren’t really impressed with the app just yet. Full review after the break…

Trism

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★★☆☆

If you’ve ever played Chuzzle or Bejeweled, you’ll easily be able to pick up on this variant.  It seems as though it is impossible for game developers to escape or even resist building from the hype those games have brought to portable gaming.  This app, however, takes the concept into a new direction that makes the gameplay enjoyable and unique. Trism (Developer-defined as a mash-up of triangle and prism) plays very much like Bejeweled in the sense that the player must move the items on the screen to match colors and gain points. How the developers make this concept unique after the break…

Urbanspoon

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

If you’re at all like me, you get bored of the same old restaurants but don’t want to spend hours looking through the phonebook (who does that any more?) to find a new place that sounds good.  Even if you do that, there’s always the risk that you won’t enjoy the food or the ambiance.  Yes, there are websites that can help with this: most major metropolitan areas have several places where you can go to find new stuff and see what gets great ratings. Well guess what… that ability and more is now available to those of us with an iPhone or even an iPod Touch.  More after the break…

iPhone News Update (2008.07.25)

In our morning readings today, we found a few sites mentioning some information that would be beneficial to pass on.  So we’ve taken everything iPhone that we’ve found today and condensed it into one article for your reading pleasure.  After the break we’ll be talking about iPhone OS 2.0.1, iPhone OS 2.1, App Store Updates, Disabling iPhone backups, and Installer 2.0 news.

TTR (Tap Tap Revenge)

CTA RATING: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

Tap Tap Revenge (formerly Tap Tap Revolution for you jailbreak types) is a one and two player game that currently allows you to tap out rhythms to developer-defined, no-name songs.  Just because I haven’t heard of any of the artists doesn’t mean that they’re not popular, but I consider myself pretty current my with discography.  I actually just installed the latest update for this app… it failed, leaving my iphone in a never-ending restart cycle.  I can’t necessarily blame Tapulous for this, your mileage may very, but it doesn’t really help when a reviewer wants to check out your app and it kills his iPhone.  Restore: here we go. Full TTR review after the break.

MLB at Bat

CTA RATING: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆

This one’s for all of the baseball nuts out there.  Some call me foolish, others understand the necessity for a hardcore fanatic to follow every game, out and pitch of his favorite team… mine just happens to be the Colorado Rockies.  I once had a friend ask me, why the Rockies? Yes, they’ve only been around since 1993, but it was about that time when I started to play baseball and really enjoyed watching a new club rise to success.  After an unbelievable streak last year that eventually brought them to the World Series, I vowed to never miss another game… at least, watch the highlights.  More after the break.
